Johnny in Sweden

Summer 2006

When Johnny heard of the upcoming regatta in Sweden, and saw how many 22’s had signed up to race, he bought a plane ticket. On the morning of July 5th John set out for Sweden. His other plans for the trip include checking out new hardware which he may use on the Windjak after its restoration and also on the new boats. More information about the regatta is posted here. We will post the results of this regatta as soon as they are known, as well as pictures of course.

Sonja  S-200 sends word

The owners of Sonja just recently sent us an e-mail, which we were happy to receive. They write:

Hello,
My wife and I have owned the 22 square meter S200 Sonja since 1976. She is currently at the end of a rebuilding effort and is kept at Kean's Detroit Yacht Harbor on the upper Detroit River. I have a history that I compiled that is 90% complete as far
as we know. If you are interested I'll pass that on via e-mail. Just a few weeks ago we were able to add an owner's name from the 1950's.

Dick Latham:

Richard S. Latham ordered the first Udell, which was completed in 1955, and named Windjak. Nearly 10 years later he sold Windjak and had the Skipjak built, making him the first owner of the first and last of the wooden Udell’s. He loved sailing, and his brilliant sketches and idea’s which were incorporated into the first Udell’s, making them the truly amazing boat that they are. Below is a picutre of Dick (left) and Thorn (right). To the right is a picture of Dick Latham sitting with a model of Skipjak.
